The Bigscreen Beyond VR headset is the result of a VR software maker dabbling in hardware. The headset was unveiled earlier this year, confirming the price, design, specifications and critical features. Shipments are expected to begin in the third quarter of this year.

This virtual reality headset features an OLED display with a resolution of 2560 x 2560 pixels per eye with a refresh rate of up to 90Hz. Weighing just 127 grams, it’s extremely compact and will cost $999.

Once you pre-order your headset, the company will contact you for a 3D scan of your face. This is used to custom build the face pillow to the shape of the user. The headphones will be shipped directly to you once you enter the shipping stage.

The headset features pancake lenses that help keep it compact and lightweight. It features a 90-degree field of view and fully supports VR gaming on Steam. You can also enjoy movies, play games and hang out with friends in VR using the Bigscreens app.

Meta Quest 3

Metas CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the latest Quest 3 VR headset ahead of Apple’s WWDC, where Tim Cook is expected to unveil Apple’s first VR headset.

The new Quest 3, according to Zuckerberg, is the first mainstream high-resolution color mixed reality headset. Powered by Qualcomm’s next-generation chipset, Quest 3 is not only Meta’s most powerful headset, but it’s also 40% thinner and lighter than its predecessor.

The new headset has an updated design and, according to the company, has been redesigned from the inside out. sporting what appear to be pancake-style lenses.

At $499, the Meta Quest 3 is much cheaper than the Quest Pro. Not only will this standalone VR headset compare to other virtual reality headsets, but this aggressive pricing puts it up against gaming consoles like the PlayStation 5.

Quest 3 will be compatible with the entire Quest 2 library, with more exclusive titles to be announced at a later date. The company will reveal more, including headset availability, at the Meta Connect conference on September 27.

The creators of Steam Deck are working on the successor to Valve Index. The company has confirmed it is developing a second-generation VR headset but hasn’t revealed any details yet.

The company feels confident about VR as it has the experience to build new hardware and a library of games to take advantage of the next headset’s prowess.

Valve’s game library and aggressive pricing are also the reason behind the success of the Valve handheld gaming console. The Valve Index headset, on the other hand, was released in 2019, and despite the $1000 price tag for the complete kit, it’s been doing quite well.

Valve’s next VR headset could be an exciting gadget that could rival Bigscreen’s headsets, which appear to be taking advantage of Valve’s library of games.

Apple Vision Pro

Apple Vision Pro has been a talking point since 2016. However, the company only unveiled its first mixed reality headset at WWDC.

It was not only one of Apple’s most secret projects recently, but it is also one of the most important products announced by Tim Cook.

The Vision Pro will cost $3499 and will begin retailing towards the end of the year. While we don’t yet have an in-depth spec sheet for the Vision Pro, the Vision Pro displays 23 million pixels on each lens, bringing pixel density quality above a 4K TV on both three-element lenses.

It also features Ambient Spatial Audio, which should give users the highest quality sound ever experienced in a VR headset when paired with audio raytracing.

Moohan project by Samsung and Google

Various reports suggest that Samsung and Google, already collaborating on Android and Wear OS, are teaming up to counter Apple. The result of the joint effort could be a powerful XR headset called Project Moohan.

Reports suggest this extended reality (XR) headset could carry Samsung hardware (and branding) as Google is preparing Android XR software to power the headset. Both companies want to make impressive headphones that can compete with the Apple Vision Pro.

However, the teams of these two tech giants are reportedly frustrated with delays and a fear of making an inferior product.

Hardware-wise, Google has a long list of failed AR products, including Google Glass, Cardboard, Daydream, Tango, and Iris, as well as software like ARCore, Tilt Brush, and several Google Maps AR features. This is why Samsung seems keen to take control of the project and want to make sure it sees the light.

We weren’t sure yet about the launch date of Project Moohan. However, we will definitely keep our fingers crossed.

Viewing the Pimax portal

The Pimax Portal is a Nintendo Switch-like handheld gaming device that can double as a standalone VR headset when inserted into the Portal View or QLED View VR headset.

First announced in November 2022, the headphones were successfully crowdfunded on Kickstarter with an expected ship date of January 2023. The headphones, however, have yet to ship.

If you look closely, the whole product is inspired by several successful products from Nintendo Switch and virtual reality glasses from Google.

The Portal has a large 8-inch display and detachable controllers similar to the Switch when used as a handheld console. You can remove the controllers and place the 4K LCD display in the headset to use it as virtual reality. Unfortunately, on the official website there is no confirmation about the date of sale or shipment of Pimax products.
